The game of Bocce is a great equalizer in which ages and social class fuse and disappear. On court there are neither young people nor old people, neither winemakers nor grape pickers and the beginner can play with the veteran and the mechanic with the lawyer.

This democratic spirit of the game of Bocce is the basis on which its deeply peaceful character is founded. It is often the beginning of long friendships. None can be so openly demonstrated than the bond that exists with Mike Grgich and his border collie and Wine Dog, Posip.

Mike is a veteran of the game that he first played in his home of Croatia and it is most appropriate that Posip would follow in his footsteps. Mike taught Posip to nudge the heavy bocce around and eventually back to Mike. A quick learner, Posip loves to play all ball sports and Mike instantly knew his pup had something special – a unique talent with the ball. While Posip may never become a professional Bocce player, she has given Mike the sort of joy, happiness and companionship that money just can’t buy.

But why Mike never gave her a golf club we’ll never know…
